Matthew tells us that Joseph took his family to Egypt and didn't return until Herod was dead (Matthew 2:19-21). But Luke 23:6-12 says that when Jesus was being tried, Pilate handed him over to Herod because Herod ruled the region that Jesus was from.
Was there more than one Herod during the time of the gospel considering that Herod was king of Judea and Archelaus succeeded his rule (Matthew 2:22) before Jesus even began teaching let alone his trial? I've been searching the internet for an answer, but it seems that no one even adresses this. What am I missing here?
