angels can see God, but humans cannot. The references in the O.T. must be understood in that to see a representative of God was treated as a view of God himself. For example Stephen says Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai from an angel. Moses says of the angel that he saw the God's back side. Jacob wrestled with an angel and says he wrestled with God. Even Thomas in the N.T. calls Jesus God but Jesus always spoke of himself as the representative of God.
