Exodus :30:15
The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a
shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for
your souls.
Has this verse has been used by the Religious right to support a flat tax, wherein everyone pays the same dollar amount (as opposed to paying the same PERCENTAGE of income)
Ok, so here are TWO contradictions that I see here. OK, I don't know chapter and verse, but I'm pretty sure somewhere in the bible it instructs to tithe 10 percent. If that is the case, the rich would give more, and the poor would give less.
The other contradiction I see is that Jesus said to render unto God what is God's and unto Caesar what is Caesors. This verse above looks like a directive to give to the church. (read all the verses proceeding) So a directive to give to the church would have NOTHING to do with what Caseser would have us render.
OK, this is not a contradiction, but most fundamentalists explain away verses they don't like with "But that's OLD testament", so why is this even relevant ?
