I would like to know how many generations are between Solomon and Jeconiah. The author who wrote the response did not answer that question, even though Matthew expressly states the number, and the generations are easily counted in Chronicles.
I Chronicles 3:10-16 lists 18 generations. Matthew 1:6-11 lists 14 generations. The author of the response posits that some folks were omitted for artistic or poetic reasons, or because some of the people in the list may have been unpopular. I don't find that very plausible, but I have to admit that it is possible. So we will go with it, for now.
We are still left with a huge problem, and that is Matthew 1:17: "So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations."
If all of the generations are 14, then there cannot be 18. On the other hand, if there are 18 generations, then 14 does not comprise all of them. Either the list given in Chronicles is factually incorrect, or the expressly stated number of generations in Matthew is factually incorrect.
