Abraham shows his willingness to kill his son for God. Only an evil God would ask a father to do that; only a bad father would be willing to do it.Playing Christian's Advocate for a moment...
If you really do believe in the afterlife, and why wouldn't you if Yahweh were speaking to you directly and presumably telling you about it, than life is fairly trivial. Death becomes just a transition to the afterlife. Furthermore, since Yahweh has asked for your son, that means your son is going up to be with him. You'll spend another few decades on earth (oh, excuse me, a few hundred more years given life expectancies in Genesis) and then go to join your son later.
This becomes a situation where you're sending your son on a trip to Heaven a little early. It'll hurt for a few seconds but the paradise will be worth it. What father wouldn't be delighted, providing for his son in such a way.
If your son isn't too keen on the idea, it becomes a "you'll thank me for this later" situation.
OK, I'm done playing Christian's Advocate.
This underscores the danger of believing in the Christian paradigm. Life is trivialized by the prospect of an eternal afterlife. Killiing becomes just a matter of sending someone to their final destination a little ahead of schedule (especially if you believe in the "elect" as some Christians do). When you see the universe from a naturalist perspective, life is precious because it may be all we get.
