Contradictions in the Quran
1. Have some passages in the Quran been abrogated?
Not contradictory, the abrogations the verse is reffering to is the Bible, Old Testament and New Testament and other holy books God sent. However in reference to the actual abrogations in the Koran. They do exist, and they are the decisions and words of God, that are not to be changed, nor have they changed for fifteen hundred years. (2. How many angels spoke to Mary?
There is a plural of respect and a plural of quantity in Arabic, this happens to be the plural of respect. Hence you will also find God refer to himself as "We" in the Koran, when in fact he speaks of himself. The holy spirit Gabriel, is held in high regard in the Koran, hence the "s" at the end of "angel". Note that it does not denote that there was more than one angel in the context.
3. Can Allah do anything?
It doesn't say that he can't do that, it questions how it could be. It is considered blasphemous in Islam. hence the "How can" and not "I can not". It refers to God having a son as an absurdity as if to say "Why in the world would god have a son?".
4. How long is Allah's day?
Define "day"... A day is only a period, no one knows what period it is referring to when it says "Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years", but it is clearly not referring to the same period it refers to in the other verses as it clearly mentions that this is in regards to the angel's descent to earth and not a day with God i.e. in heaven.
Basically the fifty thousand years is speaking about a day in space.
5. Who chooses the devils to be friends of unbelievers?
In this it refers to the laws of the universe that bad people (or devils, which include humans) are companions to bad people. This is not constraintly followed as it may be that you have a bad person of whom is friendly with a good person (Adam and the snake etc). However the law is that devils are friends to those who don't believe, so this is a warning to those who do believe. Why are the devils friends to those that don't believe? well because "for lo! they choose the devils for protecting supporters instead of Allah".
6. Was Pharaoh drowned or saved?
Saved is not in the christian term "saved", saved in this sense means his body was saved. He was to remain as he was, neither rotting, nor decomposing, to be a sign to mankind.
On a related note, they found a body in egypt of which all it's hair, skin and body was "saved" and had not rotten.
All muslims believe pharoah was killed, this is the only place that I have see the view that he was "saved".
7. Will all Christians go to hell?
Surrender to Allah, merely means they worship god. Allah means god in Arabic, interestingly enough, in the original text of the Bible God is Elah. Hence, they both surrender to Allah. Also in that time there were those of the christians that didn't believe that Jesus was the son of god, but a great many did. This is what was meant by those Christians and Jews that do not grieve.
8. Does Muhammad ask for a fee?
Mohammed didn't ask for a fee, at first. God was saying to tell them that he wasn't ask anything of the people of Mecca other than their acceptance of one god. He wanted no money, nor tax, only belief. It wasn't until he was forced to Madinah that he asked for a "fee" so as to finance themselves enough to defend the city against the attacks from Mecca and other tribes hither.
9. How should Jews and Christians be treated?
Two stages, first stage god told them to be patient until god gave the command and after they were betrayed by the tribes that were given the scripture. God told them to fight back...
Pretty simple concept if you ask me.
10. Which came first, heaven or earth?
"And after that he spread the earth." The earth was already created by that time. All that was needed to be done was for it to be spread. Which was a different stage of development than the creation of it. The Koran testifies to this as dealt with further down.
11. Will Allah forgive anything?
Forgiveness is the discretion of god, "Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins." is a declaration to say, God is the one who forgives all sins (not anyone else). This doesn't mean that no matter what you do you will be forgiven. Only that god is the one who forgives all the sins.
In the other verse you quote, it actually explains it in the omitted part. "Lo! Allah forgiveth not that a partner should be ascribed unto Him." you missed the part where it says "He forgiveth (all) save that to whom He will." Hence it is discretionary of god to give forgiveness. Yet he is the one that forgiveth all sins.
12. How many angels fought for Muhammad?
This is a reference to two separate battles.
13. Is each person free to believe (or disbelieve) in whatever he or she wants?
Well, this isn't really a contradiction is it? You can believe what you want, but you won't go to heaven in some cases.
Also disbelievers does not mean people that "don't believe". In the Arabic text it means people that know the truth, but try to shun it anyway (for personal gain). Apparently there is no word for that in english, so disbelievers suffice for now.
14. How long did it take to create the heavens and the earth?
Notice how you have to add them up?
It's still six days, because it he doesn't wait for the 4 days of spreading the earth to finish before creating the heavens. Remember above of which it says the heaven was created and then he spread the earth? Well here we have it. The creation of the heaven is a seperate even from that of earth and spreading it. They interpolate into each other.
15. What was man created from?
They're all true...
You see, dust and clay refers to the same substance (in the arabic), actually 90% of dust is supposedly made up of skin anyhow.
Water - the body is made up of 80% water if you didn't know.
Clot - This is reffering to conception, you know... Zygotes. You didn't expect it to say zygotes did you?
Clay, Mud or Dust - This is reffering the carbon we are made up of.
They're all true, we aren't made up of one thing.
16. Is Allah merciful?
Mercy is referring to god allowing and prolonging the life of those who oppose him so that they may believe and then he would forgive all sins. If you check the history, there's a long line of people that killed many muslims (some family of Muhammed) and God forgave them and made them muslims. That is mercy...
As for the sealing up of the hearing and the sight, this is referring to what happens when people take a biased stance against something. They completely ignore it's merits. This is in referrence to everyone (perhaps even you, reader) that disbelieves in the Koran vehemently, because they refuse to know of it's good.
This law of life god attributes to himself for he created our minds.
17. Does Allah make distinctions between His messengers?
The quote is a prayer of which Muslims recite and say "We make no distinction between any of His (god's) messengers." (Notice the "His", this isn't god's words) whereas the other is God saying he has caused some to excel the others.
There's no contradiction because Muslims don't "make no distinction between any of His messengers.", not god.
Check the context, it is something Muslims recite, not god's words.
18. Who was the first Muslim?
Notice how these are the words of the Apostles and not god?
The respected prophets are talking about in their time, not of all time.
19. Did one of Noah's sons die in the flood?
Noah's family were saved from the flood and they were made the survivors, the seed of Noah prevailed... but not ALL of his family. It only mentions that his family were saved, not that his entire family were saved. He actually had many wives...
The verse saying one of his sons died compliments the other verse and doesn't contradict it.
20. Does everything obey Allah?
Actually, people disobey God 24/7. All are obedient unto him means that he has everything under control. No one has ever believed that EVERYONE obeys god. Then there would be no need for Muhammad's mission, no?
I think you've just misconstrued the verse a little. Everything is obedient to what he wants them to do, but if you look in context, God already knew Iblis(Satan) wouldn't prostrate.
21. When did the people repent for worshiping the golden calf?
"And when" on the second verse is not reffering to an event that comes afterward, but moreso only referring to an event which happened. In some other translations the "And when" is translated as "In the meantime".
So... "when they feared the consequences thereof and saw that they had gone astray" was at the same time Moses came back. They aren't separate events. They feared the consequences and saw that they went astray at the time Moses came back. It wasn't at their own conscience. The following verse even states...
"And when Moses returned unto his people, angry and grieved, he said: Evil is that (course) which ye took after I had left you. Would ye hasten on the judgment of your Lord ? And he cast down the tablets, and he seized his brother by the head, dragging him toward him. He said: Son of my mother! Lo! the folk did judge me weak and almost killed me. Oh, make not mine enemies to triumph over me and place me not among the evil-doers."
Hence you can see Aaron (Moses brother) failed in trying to get them to repent in Moses' absence.
They aren't separate events, they have never been believed to be separate events, nor is there any reason to believe so. The other verse compliments the verse, rather than contradicts it.
22. Did Allah destroy the sight and hearing of nonbelievers?
Two different similitudes, we're talking about extreme metaphors in Arabic here, not to be taken literally.
23. Could Allah have a son?
Again, "How can" does not mean "Can not".
24. Can a man treat his wives fairly?
If you're afraid you won't do them justice then marry only one wife, however you won't be able to achieve equilibrium no matter how much you try.
That's what it's saying, they only compliment each other. Instead of contradicting.
25. Did Pharaoh's wizards believe in Moses and Allah?
Moses hasn't thrown down his staff yet and made their actions vain. So they don't really believe him yet. Yes it is reffering to the same incident, but as you can see all Moses had done thus far was declare his divine connection and not done anything to show that, so... they couldn't believe what he was saying by merely taking his word for it.
For what it's worth, all your scientific contradictions are incorrect too, but I think I'll clear that up another time.
