Posts: 20 12/28/05 16:07:35	Tags : None The bible infers that if a person is good, his soul will go to "Heaven." If he/she is bad they go to hell. But I doubt if "they" thought this out. If you will use your mind to think (not like when you go to church and go to sleep), you'll find something like this. At the moment of conception a soul is assigned to you. It stays wif you all your life and departs your body when you die. The Soul either has a mind of it's own or it has no mind, using your mind. Let's say it has a spirit mind. You have 2 minds in one body. You may want to go out drinking, but the soul wants to stay home and go to church. Since you have the feet, you go out drinking. You want to kill your landlord, your soul doesn't. You have the gun - Bapp. Now when you die, and the soul departs your scroungy body, why should your soul be punished, because you were a bad boy? No Way. Option 2 - the soul hs no mind. It has to ride piggy back, using your mind, what little you have. If your mind makes all the decisions 'cause the soul has no mind, and you're a bad, bad boy/girl, then why would you punish the soul, when you die. My point is that the soul is just along for the ride. You as a person do all this crap while you're here on Earth, and then someone wants to punish the poor soul. I don't think so.- - - - Doughboy

One of the most condemning attributes of Christianity is the fact that Christians have been unable to agree on what causes people to go to their heaven and hell. I spent 9 years, at the suggestion of people I love, trying to be a Christian. I was warned that things would be bad for me all around if I didn't, and being the gullible follower I was at the time, I jumped in. One of the things that always bothered me from day one was this idea that this god decided to create souls and attach them to silly physical bodies. The body seems to be unmecessary to the soul since it is to be discarded eventually anyway. What was the point of this? God doesn't need a physical body, why did he force one on us? Giving us bodies forces into physical pain, fitness maintenance, healthcare, an inexplicable reliance on food and water, a need to waste much of our lives sleeping, and probably 100 other ridiculous things that I know I could think of if I spent time. Why create problems that simply don't need to be? Why not just create souls and let them hang out in the heavenly realm (whatever that is) like the angels do? Do the angels have to worry about health insurance? Back pain? Dandruff? Blood pooling in the feet due to a birth-defect in the heart? Worms that eat the eyes of children? Christians claim that their god, if he exists, is a superb designer and leader that he knows what he is doing. Yet, I have seen no reason to believe that this is the case. I have seen no reason to believe that this thing he has done, whatever it is, is a good thing, one worthy of respect. Nonetheless, I am supposed to lavish affection on him. It's completely insane. Posts: 401 12/30/05 17:45:37	This two minds idea kind of makes sense in the Xtian worldview. The Bible itself says that the spirit is at war with the flesh. Now you bring up an interesting question about punishing the soul because of the misdeeds of the flesh. There's a strand of thought in the Bible that says that salvation comes from the spiritual acceptance of Jesus, not in doing good deeds. So I guess that's how your soul gets saved. But what of the body? The Bible also speaks of Jesus separating the goats from the sheep (i.e. judging people by their deeds). So this must be how the body gets saved. Finally, the Bible speaks about spirits getting perfect bodies. So here's my guess. If there are two minds then sometimes the spirit will be preserved and sometimes the body will be preserved. After the Apocalypse all the saved spirits will be put in the saved bodies. God's probably just waiting to destroy the world until the number of saved souls is the same as the number of saved bodies. Crap, I think I just invented a new kind of Christianity. If God wanted us to be Atheists we'd be born that way.

What I was told during my years as a Baptist {1st Baptist, to be exact} was that there are billions of souls waiting in heaven for their chance to be "human" as it were.
