Q: In Matthew 12:22, a man who is blind and mute is described as possessed with a devil. Isnt it rather primitive and unscientific to assume that everyone whos blind and mute is demon-possessed?
A: The Bible does not teach that all blindness and muteness and similar afflictions are caused by demon-possession. This is just one particular case in which a man was demon-possessed and the demons presence caused the man to be blind and mute. (Im no expert on demonology and possession, but Im willing to speculate that this might be a symptom of the subconscious resistance of the possessed individual to the demons presence -- i.e., he subconsciously prevents the demon from having full control over him by not allowing his senses to function at all.)
(Btw, in the side-bar beside Matthew 12:22 theres a typo -- Thos we are.)
