Jesus instructs His disciples in Matthew 10:16, as they are about to begin a preaching-tour, Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Quote: The whole verse implies that Jesus is sending the apostles out to be marytered... is that a good thing in your opinion? Also with the verse before Quote:is Jesus saying to the apostles, don't worry, I will kill them all horribly for you anyway? ----

T: "The whole verse implies that Jesus is sending the apostles out to be marytred... is that a good thing in your opinion?" You're incorrect; that's not what the verse implies. First, the disciples obviously all returned from this preaching-mission intact. Second, one does not shake the dust of one's feet when departing a city that one has been martyred in. Yet Jesus anticipates such an act. Thus Jesus is not anticipating His apostles' imminent martyrdom. T: "is Jesus saying to the apostles, don't worry, I will kill them all horribly for you anyway?" /If/ they reject the apostles, the city-dwellers will be held accountable for rejecting the King's couriers -- which involves a fate worse than Sodom's, which involved death and destruction. But we don't have a record of the inhabitants of these cities and villages rejecting the apostles at this time. Yours in Christ, Waterrock |

Quote: www.flatratewebsites.net/...a/faq.html (American Dove Association) Quote: So, as an analogy, Jesus' admonition kinda sucks. He could just as easily have meant "Learn to eat unnatural food items, and scalp any children who get in your way." WR, you said the goodness of the statement was "self-evident". I don't think "self-evident" means what you think it means. |
