Matthew 13:12 (Injustices)

Q: In Matthew 13:12, Jesus says, For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. This unjust policy sounds like something from the Republican Party platform.

A: Its not unjust. It is a comment about peoples reception of the parables. Having a parable is a cousin to the phrase getting a joke; i.e., the person who hath perceives the meaning. So, to the person who grasps the meaning of the parable, or of part of the parable, or of one meaning of a parable, more insight will be given, as he thinks about it (or, there during Jesus ministry, as he asks Jesus more about it). But the person who does not have the parable (i.e., the guy who doesnt get it, so to speak) will understand it as merely a pointless story, and someday, he will learn that even this understanding which he had was actually a misunderstanding.
