Q: In Matthew 13:55-57, Jesus is rejected by those who knew him the best -- the people of his home town of Nazareth. Isnt this an absurd embarrassment?
A: Perhaps for the people of Nazareth, but not for Jesus. As He said, its not unusual for a prophet ~ a /true/ prophet ~ to be respected everywhere except in his hometown. The question, though, is not accurate. Just because the people of Nazareth were Jesus neighbors does not mean that they knew Him or His nature. Look; in a number of cases of serial-killers, the murderers neighbors have been known to say that the murderer was not troublesome -- even that he was friendly and civil. Appearances can be deceiving, in more ways than one.
Plus, those who knew Jesus even better than His neighbors were His family-members, and although Jesus brothers did not have faith in His as the Messiah during His ministry, after He was crucified they did become Christians, and of course Mary was there too, in Acts 1:14.
