Posts: 26 03/03/06 11:47:31	Tags : None Most preachers say that "God" is all knowlegable and predicts our lives with precision, each movement. The bible has many versions of this also. "The Purpose Driven Life" sold tens of millions of copies. Yet In Genisis, God tells Adam and Eve not to eat of the Tree of knowledge. When they do and come into the Garden with a leaf over their "things" God asked them what happened that they were clothed, and "Who told you that you were naked?" All through the Bible, God, asks "What happened", "When" etc. Well, does God know whats happening or not?

In all fairness, i do sometimes ask the kids to pony up an explanation for the footprints on the ceiling even when i know perfectly well how they got there. Posts: 4041 03/03/06 13:33:01	As Keith eluded to, it could be that this god was trying to make a point or trying to teach a lesson by asking questions to which he already knew the answers. This is an explanation you will here from Bible believers. However, it is my opinion that when these stories were made up, the concept of a god knowing the future or being able to see everywhere at once had not been completely conceived. It seems that god could either be watching or not watching. This makes the most sense to me since god kind of strolls back into the garden after being away while all the no-nos were being performed. (God seemed to have a bodily form too.) When he went away, he really went away. Thus, asking "What the hell has been going on around here!?" completely works. "If I were God, and I made myself into a regular ol' person, I would have written down the stuff I said myself. I would have had people there with me taking notes. I wouldn't rely on people from the generation after my death to get the story right." - i would be an astronaut on the SAB Message Board

Posts: 26 03/03/06 14:37:27	You are probably correct. It probably took a thousand plus years , more or less to come up with "God knows everything, he can tell you where you're going to be tomorrow, etc, etc. It seems that religion was also in evolution.

Posts: 4041 03/03/06 14:48:46	My guess is that these basic creation stories involved a god like the Geek gods, bodily, limited, and very human. However, over time, as we took up more planet space and as the bodily gods could not actually be found walking around anywhere, they became gods of the sky. God must have moved his throne up on top of the big blue dome above us. That's why we can't see him and why all that storm stuff comes from up there. So, now that god is up there he can see everything we do! Of course, when Bob died after cheating on his wife in the covered shed, the people had to conclude that god could even see thru shed roofs! You can't get away from him, he can see everywhere! Then, as we realized that there is no blue dome above us with a throne on top, god moved into another dimension. Of course, this change in theology didn't stop people from engaging in the habit of raising their hands to the sky or looking up in prayer, but habits are hard to break. Posts: 416 03/13/06 21:05:08	This story, at the very beginning of the Bible, is one of the first clues that I had that something was very seriously wrong with this book. How can God create the universe, and then suddenly disappear from his creation while disobedience ensues? Why would an all-powerful God need to "walk in the Garden?" Did the incident with the Tree happen on a Sunday while he was "resting," or something? I've studied some Greek/Roman mythology, and to me the story is obviously a "creation myth," explainng why the world is as it is. Since humans disobeyed God, for example, people are now cursed to a mortal and hard existence. However, people are now living longer and healthier than ever before in human history. Yes, God says that humans are to be cursed for all time by bearing babies and growing food. But now, very few Christians (if any) still grow their own food and many women practice birth control. But why hasn't God cursed us with a new curse again yet? Something like "I will take away all your electricity!" That truely would be a curse for humanity in today's day and age.

I once had an argument with the AiG people about this. They just ignore inconvenient facts. The truth is they say we are all in decline since "the Fall", but their eager enough to go to the doctor to keep their lives going longer, or use cars to travell around, or the internet to communicate their message. Only when Adam says he was naked, does God ask him about the fruit. 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

He has regretted creating humans to begin with a few times, regretted making Saul a king, and has also changed his mind on many subjects such as how many women you can marry, and how many generations to punish for ones sins. Also in the OT the holiest people were wealthy, had slaves, and many wives while the NT is of course completely different. Point is, why would you ever change your mind or have any regrets if you know the future? [Edit] Sorry posted under the wrong section. First post, forum noob

Instead you had to pray to lower gods like Baal or Ashterah for intercession. El could easily forget about you if you stopped asking the other gods for intercession. Of course that couldn't have anything to do with the Judeo-Christian god known as Elohim. If God wanted us to be Atheists we'd be born that way.

It still takes plenty of hard work to put food on the table - even SAB interprets the verse that way. And I'd love to hear a FEMALE commenter chime in on how pleasant it is to give birth these days.
