Q: How many women went to the sepulchre? Matthew 28:1 mentions two, Mark 16:1 mentions three, Luke 24:1, 10 means that there were at least five women there, and John 20:1 mentions only Mary Magdalene.

A: Mary Magdalene was either accompanied by, or rendesvoused with, the other Mary, during her first visit to the tomb (when it was yet dark). John mentions only Mary Magdalene but he does not say Mary-Magdalene-and-only-Mary-Magdalene.

After Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw its entrance-stone rolled away, and then went and told Simon Peter and John about it, and then returned with them to the tomb, and remained near the tomb after Simon Peter and John departed, the other women -- Joanna, Salome, and at least one more -- arrived (after the sun had risen).
