Q: Were the men/angels inside the tomb, or outside the tomb, when they were first seen? Matthew 28:2 says that the angel sat on the entrance-stone, which was located outside the tomb. However, Mark 16:5 says that it was as the women were entering the tomb that they saw a young man, and Luke 24:3-4 says that two men stood by the women after they went in. And John 20:11-12 says that Mary saw two angels as she was looking into the tomb, clearly implying that they were inside.
A: When all the women visited the tomb, one angel was outside on the entrance-stone, and two angels were inside. Only the other Mary saw, or admitted to seeing, any angels at the tomb when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary reported to the disciples after the first tomb-visit. During the second tomb-visit, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary saw one angel, outside (where Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were), as the other women, who were inside the tomb, saw two angels there. Then after the other women left, Mary Magdalene lingered at the tomb, and then entered the tomb, at which point she also saw two angels therein, and then she met Jesus Himself.
