Greetings Whatchoo.
WTB: "Just because it is a personal wish does not relieve it from being a contradiction, does it?"
Yes, to the extent that Jesus' statement is a didactic command and Paul's statement is not. And the other things I said still apply: Jesus prohibited public prayers like the hypocritical religious leaders used; the prayers that Paul has in mind are of a different kind, and probably in regard to a different setting, too.
WTB: "Paul's personal wish is quite clearly contradictory to Jesus' statement."
No it isn't. If John says, "When you visit restaurants, don't eat food off the floor like a pig," and Joe says, "I wish everyone would eat at Denny's using utensils," they do not contradict each other. That's analogous to the picture here: Jesus prohibited ostentatious and/or insincere public prayer. That is not the same as prohibiting all public prayer.
