Just because it is a personal wish does not relieve it from being a contradiction, does it? Paul's personal wish is quite clearly contradictory to Jesus' statement. It may not be a contradiction in what believers should do, as Jesus' word clearly ranks higher than Paul. But Paul is wrong, according to Jesus.
Your statement about "public prayer being beneficial" is your own personal idea, isn't it? Your example is *Paul*, not Jesus later exhorting a public prayer.
