.....I'm arguing that the Sabbath is to be observed. The only question is what does that mean.
That is where the whole "made for man" thing comes into play.
Clearly the Messiah is correcting the current thoughts of his time on what the Sabbath is about. This isn't the only passage that discusses this "problem".
From what I've seen and studied the point is a day of rest and reflection. Yes, one should turn their focus "heavenward" but it is better to sleep the day away than to profane it by working.
Also, part of the mandate against "fire making" was to show that God intended woman to participate in the rest also. Since they were the primary users of fire to cook.
