I loved reading your story. I'm impressed. You really gave that a good shot.

It must have been quite hard to let it all go once you'd invested so much in it. I've never been able to give myself over completely to something like that. I admire you.

Personally, the closest I have come to that kind of peace is by switching off that part of me that thinks it can have final answers to the mysteries of life. I remember the torment of my teens, trying to decide which of all the different theories about the ultimate truth must be real. I think it's a human conceit that we think we can have a definitive answer. My position now, such as it is, tends to regard all knowledge as symbolic. We make the best map we can, but it is never totally accurate.

You story gives me faith - people can come to their senses.
