If my kid says he thinks chocolate cake is good for breakfast, i tolerate the idea, and say that i heard that Bill Cosby album before they were born. But he ain't getting chocolate cake for breakfast. He'll need a much better campaign to make his idea MY idea, which will then inform my own actions, such as allowing him to have cake for breakfast.

No, it changes it to a 'no.' As long as you're clear on the difference between an idea and the actions based on those ideas, i'd say that ideas should be tolerated or even championed. We have to at least tolerate new ideas enough to evaluate them, discuss them, find the parts that are objectionable, and discuss them. Intolerance of ideas is limiting. If we never hear what NAMBLA wants, we'll never know what NAMBLA is up to, perhaps until it's too late.
As long as we're discussing it, we can say no. It's part of a discussion, rather than 'you just hate us 'cuz we're different.'

To a degree, but there is a process. We can challenge intolerance in court, and it is established that the ideas should be tolerated as long as they don't hurt another. The court system does listen to the majority, but will also, if everything works right, consider the rights of the minority.
