Quote:
Matthew is summarizing the meaning of Jesus statement....

Can this not be said of all the gospels?

Mark Matthew, Luke etc. are summarizing, remembering, giving what they thought was the `meaning' of Jesus's statements.

So when Jesus is recorded as saying something silly it is easier to explain away as the gospels trying to summarize his meaning.

Secondly, why would Jesus think that the readership of the bible (millions of people through the centuries) would never see epiphytic orchids? Or was the bible only written for the people 2000 years ago? And if the people then hadn't seen an epiphytic orchid then Jesus also would never have seen one. So the simpler explanation is that Jesus didn't know about epiphytic orchids rather than just decide not to mention them to ignorant people of the time.
