Timely, as I've been looking more into the OT prophesies concerning J.C. I understand your non-literal interpretation of Zechariah - there aren't many concrete things prophesized in Zechariah 9 that don't lend themselves to a more open interpretation of who would do what to whom.
The one thing that IS very concrete is the prediction that he'd come rollin' in to town on a donkey. However, I can't put much stock in the claim that this part of the prophesy was fulfilled. Presumably Jesus knew the prophesy concerning the method of his arrival. Anyone intent on *appearing* to be the messiah, would of course be sure to secure a donkey in order to enter the city. Jesus does just that.
This line of reasoning does not invalidate your interpretation of Zechariah, but it does lead me to be skeptical of 9.9.
