Posts: 401 05/28/06 09:21:47	If your eyes and hands can't cause you to sin, then why does Jesus even bring it up. Seems like a waste of time to me. It would be like Jesus saying, "If the moon is made of green cheese and you reach up and grab some, then your balls will atrophy." Not only was Jesus be wasting him time but the gospel writers were wasting valuable paper. Obviously Jesus wouldn't even bring up this conditional unless he thought it was possible. If God wanted us to be Atheists we'd be born that way.

Your eyes and your hands are arguably the most vital (external) parts of your body. Also, they are the parts of your body that, if you are inclined towards sin, you are likely to use in the act of sinning. If Jesus had said "nose hairs" instead of "right eye", then what would be the point? Who cares about nose hairs? Most people would just as soon see them gone anyway, sin or not. And since nose hairs have nothing to do with sinning, then it would be very, very strange and confusing.

Posts: 401 06/12/06 20:25:43	It doesn't matter if nose hairs are involved in a sin or not. Jesus was talking cause and effect. If it's not even theoretically for a hand or eye to cause you to sin then there's no point in Jesus even bringing it up. I can only conclude that Jesus brought it up because it could happen. I figure Jesus wanted to teach people how to properly live their lives, not blather on about what to do in situations that can never arise. If God wanted us to be Atheists we'd be born that way.
