you have said that the phrase 'fruits of the ground' means 'leftover stuff lying on the ground', when strong's says it means 'produce derived from agriculture'.
there's nothing in the text that says that cain was offering less than his best.
in fact, god says 'If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?' god hadn't rejected cain, just his sacrifice, so cain must have donest well.
indeed, if he wasn't putting much effort into it in the first place, it's unlikely that he'd kill his brother when he lost.
