On another board, a poster pointed out how the Doomsday Prophets come out of the woodwork when theheadlines are full of doom and gloom. Weather, war, plagues, earthquakes, START treaties...

And i thought, That's right. People are always rushing around shouting the end is near, it's here, this is ragnarok, FESTIVAL! FESTIVAL!! everytime they become even slightly aware of the daily death toll on this planet.

Imagine the looks on everyone's faces if Christ were to appear AFTER armageddon! "Oh, by the way, THAT army was the Army of God, you, you, you and you get raptured, and you and you and youse guys all failed."

Pretribulation rapture only makes sense. After all the wars and famines and doom and mud the race has had to slog through for the last 2000 years, another world war would just be 'same-old, same-old,' unless there was a REASON to believe that this time, alll the doomsayers were soothsaying.
Some miracle, or a voice in the sky saying 'Okay,....Okay, on your mark, get set....wait for it, Iran....ARMAGEDDON!"

of course, i still don't believe in God, or accept Jesus, or think that the rapture he promised could have come much later than 100CE, but as an argument within the fiction, this plot device only works one way.
