Of course it is. And yes he did.....but we have seen the shoving of personal views into scripture all the time. Truthfulness and integrity never seems to enter into the equation enough, when a believer believes that thier view is in that bible, somewhere.

Yeah, the original "gesture" must have made a nice segway into later "gestures" to the myriad saints with the semblance of minor deities. Seems to me that the ritual shift was probably contrived for both jobs and for converts.
