What does the archaeological evidence form Nazaret' suggest about the date of its settlement?<br><br>I'm not willing to make such an assumption:  how old is the oldest manuscript copy of any Gospel we have dated?  <br><br> ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Anytime someone goes off on one of these 'similarity' riffs based on TRANSLITERATIONS, I ignore them as this is nothing resembling 'scholarship'.<br><br><br>Some damfool columnist did this nonsense once in the Boston Globe and came up with 'Jerusalem' as meaning something to do with 'peace'....what idiocy!<br> ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ The fact that the Gospel writers (Mark and probably Matthew writing in the 1st century) mention Nazareth suggests that it existed. I think it's more believable that Nazareth existed (as a small village, of no real note) than that the Gospel writers made it up and there happened to be a place called that a couple of hundred years later. 			<description><![CDATA[ That pseudo-linguistic analysis is full of it.  The 'TZ' sound is one letter:  the 'Z' is another.  Hebrew words are formed from (sometimes 2 or 4 but usually)3-consonant roots:  the word for 'branch' would be 'N/TZ/R':  the word for 'Nazarene' would be 'N/Z/R/?'  - since '-ene' isn't a proper Heberw word ending, it's not clear what if any the 4th sound would actually be.<br><br>The center consonant being a different letter entirely, it is hard to imagine how the two words could be related AT... ]]></description>
